Covered Passages in Paris

Almost all of the covered passages are on the right bank of the Seine River, inside Paris before its extension in 1860. It is mostly near the Grands Boulevards, meaning in the areas where you could find wealthy people.
Most of the passages have been built in the fist half of the XIXth century. It allowed the visitors to shelter from the rain and shop at the same time.
In the 1850's, Paris had over 150 passages but Baron Haussmann changed it: the districts are crossed by wide avenues and department stores appear.
