Sales in Paris

More than 1500 shops, nearly 500 hoteliers, restaurateurs aligned themselves with the 2nd edition of “Soldes by Paris”.
The “Soldes by Paris” helps you to enjoy the Parisian sales in a different format than going from store to store but take the time to enjoy the French capital and do not rush too much because you have 5 weeks anyway.

In 2008, Paris offers a wide variety of ideas and shopping trips around 5 theme:
The Chic circuit, which is the embodiment of the art de vivre,
The Trendy circuit, pointed gathering shopping, trendy places, trendy galleries
The Odd circuit, funny and unconventional: unclassifiable,
The Romantic circuit, for shopping lovers and tips,
The Creative circuit, for tourist artists and creator discoveries.

To discover Paris in all its glory shopping and its way of life, you will receive:
A Welcome Pack, consisting of a bag, our guide “Soldes By Paris” and preferential offers (of vouchers for massages, benefits across the partner restaurants…). These packs will be distributed in 500 hotels partners of the operation and the Shopping Stations; these are located on the different routes.

Various animations will be organized all along the routes at stores or restaurants for example.

Don’t miss the contest organized for German and British people! You can win free Eurostar or DB tickets.

The site Paris.fr has a television

The city of Paris has a website very well done and updated daily. I recently realized they also have a Paris.fr television!!

All the videos are uploaded on dailymotion, so you either watch them on the video's site or on the Paris's site.
The quality is good, much better than a lot of videos you find on these kind of sites.
The topics are from the different festivals and activities found in the city, to how to get online in Paris, and an interview of a French actress... The topics are so broad that you will probably find the one you are interested in.
Unfortunately, all theses videos are in French.

But I found a solution for my dear English speaking readers.
The same site (paris.fr) offers a tour - yes in English - of the Hotel de Ville (Townhall).
Quite exclusive I must say!:)

Hotel on the top of Palais de Tokyo, Paris

There is a absolutely crazy thing going on the top of the Palais de Tokyo!!
Have you seen it? It is green, rectangular and it seems coming from another planet! Yeah, really!
I just discovered it's a HOTEL! Yeah, really!

Hotel Everland is a project by Swiss artist-duo Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann. They are known for their Installations that deal with architecture and space.

Everland is a Hotel with only one room including a bathroom, a king-size bed and a lounge. The bounteous dimensioned room represents the subjective dream of a hotel. All Everland guests are partaking in the project.

Also the concept for operating the hotel was defined by the artists. All facets are important constituents of the artistic idea. The room can be booked for one night only, the mini-bar is fully stocked and included in the price, breakfast is delivered to the door and a record collection stands at ones disposal.

You can book online but you are going to wait until a little bit because they are fully-booked for the next 60 days!
333€ is the price for the "room".

If anybody has ever been in there, please tell us more. I'm dying to visit it.
The photo is taken from the website.

Nuit Blanche Paris 2007 (bis)

I wrote a previous post about the Nuit Blanche Paris 2007.
This 2007 edition will have Ingrid Betancourt as the main topic. It will follow the metro line 14 since a new station has been opened recently.
Mediators will be placed in different points within the city. The people are students from Parisian schools and universities and are here to help you going around during that special night. They ill invite you to sign the petition to free Ingrid Betancourt.
A special night transport network is set up during the Nuit Blanche, basically you are supposed to go home whenever you want, don't bother with metro schedule. Of course, line 14 will be open all night, since it's an automated line (a metro every 5 minutes).
Think of Cool Velib' as well to go around in the city. It will be interesting to see if people will use this new transport during the evening.
If you need to check the schedule for the Nuit Blanche, here is the programme.
More news to come...

Remember Velib'? Look at these guys! I'm not sure the city of Paris set it up for this purpose, but who cares? It's too fun to watch!

Snails with Grapes.....Uh?

The longer I live in France, the more I realize that all Pains aux raisins are NOT created equal here. Take for example, the Pains aux raisins in Burgundy. Oftentimes in France, you’ll come across many examples where a French region has adulterated changed a staple food of France, even naming it something different to suit its own tastes (and specialities) and to fight for their own regional culinary culture.
Burgundy is known for a few things: its wine, its food, usually consisting of lots of wine: Coq au vin, which is chicken in wine, Boeuf Bourgignon, which is beef cooked in wine, Pochouse, a dish with 4 kinds of fish cooked in wine, Andouillette au chablis, which are sausages cooked in wine, Oeufs en meurettes, an interesting spin on eggs that are poached in wine, Les Tripes au Rosé de Marsannay, which is tripe cooked in wine. Are we seeing a pattern here? I think I now know why the people here are so friendly and happy.
Anyway - probably most famous of all foods from Burgundy is Escargots, the little rubbery, slimey critters, or as I liked to call them: snails. Escargot is world renowned and world consumed (usually not cooked in wine but eaten with a garlic butter parsley sauce) and you will find them all over Burgundy. (Nevermind that most of the Burgundy snails are actually from Poland, Romania and Russia. You’ll see “transformé en France” when they don’t want to say where they came from originally, and want to make you believe they are the real Burgundian deal, slime notwithstanding.)

Paris is getting invaded!

For few years now, Paris sees some “space invaders” on its walls.
The idea is to "invade" cities all over the world with characters inspired by first-generation arcade games, and especially the now classic Space Invaders.
Because they're all different, they're all numbered, photographed and carefully indexed.
The guy started with Paris and then Los Angeles but there are several more cities in the world which have been “invaded”. The “invader” works alone so it means that people in the world have taken up his concept and applied it in an international way.
The guy says “Not a week goes by without new Invaders appearing.”
So be ready to look up for these “Space Invasions”.
